Born November 4, 1937 to Amy Elaine Lewis Miller and Leo J. Miller in Price, Utah.

Dave grew up in the mining town of Castle Gate, Utah. He was a superb athlete, lettering in four different sports and serving as Senior Class President his senior year. Dave was also a scholar. Upon graduation from Carbon County High School he was awarded a prestigious academic appointment to attend West Point Military Academy. He chose to turn down the appointment and serve a mission instead. This decision changed the course of his life. He served an honorable mission in the Toronto, Canada mission under the direction of Mission President Thomas S. Monson.

Dave married his eternal companion, Dea K Norton Miller, March 14, 1963 in the Logan LDS temple. They are the parents of five children: Kym (Will) Merrill, Tomball, Texas, Jenny (Gary) Ashcraft, Orem, Utah, Matthew Miller, Dallas, Texas, Michael (Laurie) Miller, Chesapeake, Virginia and Lindsey (Ben) Petersen, Orem, Utah. Dave is also survived by fifteen grandchildren. He would often whisper into their ears, “Did you know that you are my favorite?” They each knew that they were.

Dave loved and appreciated beautiful music. He loved freshly popped popcorn, crisp apples and the History Channel.

Dave Miller will be remembered first and foremost being a man who embraced his faith and family. But his professional life and career also reflected his passion, knowledge and endless contribution to the concrete masonry industry.

His tenure spanned several decades, took him to many geographical areas across the country, and he touched many along the journey with what he knew and loved best. He worked in Utah, Florida and Virginia, where his last years in the industry were spent with Solite, Witelite Pumice and Allied Concrete Products.

Dave was well known for being the Chairman of the Technical Committee at the National Concrete Masonry Association where he shared his passion with many from the industry. He also chaired numerous ASTM Committees and Sub-Committees.

After retiring and moving back to Utah with his wife Dea, Dave continued to consult for several companies and also the Masonry Veneer Manufacturer’s Association.

Though successful and influential in the workplace, Dave's heart was centered in Church service. He was a humble and valiant servant of the Lord. He served in many callings including Bishop, Stake President, and most recently as Stake Patriarch of the West Jordan Sunset Ridge Stake. Dave will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor and the ability to make us laugh. We love you Dad!

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jane MacPherson. She is a miracle worker! We also appreciated Dad’s wonderful hospice nurses Paulette, Janessa, TaSheena, Bruce and the entire hospice team at Utah Hospice Specialists for the compassionate and dignified medical care Dave received.
